Georgian citizen illegally detained by occupying forces

The occupying forces have detained Georgian citizen Gocha Pidiuri near the occupation line with occupied Tskhinvali region for “illegally crossing the border” yesterday.
The man was abducted from the village of Mejvriskhevi in Gori municipality, Georgian media reports.
His neighbours said Pidiuri was often visiting the Lomisi shrine located near the occupation line.
- The illegal detention of Georgian citizens takes place frequently;
- Most of the detainees are released after paying a fine.
According to the Georgian State Security Service, the occupying forces in two Russia-controlled Georgian regions of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) have detained 327 Georgian citizens for “illegally crossing the border” between 2017 and 2019.
Georgian citizen Gela Rostobaia was detained by occupying forces for “illegally crossing” the so-called border in the village of Shamgona, near Georgia’s occupied region of Abkhazia. Rostobaia, 39, was detained while fishing in the Enguri River yesterday, his father said.
Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili says that a new political format should be created regarding the country’s conflict issues, as existing formats are ineffective to discuss and respond to the severe problem of the occupation.
The body of 29-year-old Georgian citizen Irakli Kvaratskhelia, who died in unclear circumstances in occupied Abkhazia, has been handed over to his relatives on Tbilisi-controlled territory. News of Kvaratskhelia’s death was reported yesterday, however sources fix his death at an earlier date.

Gabriel Melanashvili and Tamaz Mchedlidze, locals of the village of Nikozi, in the Gori municipality of Georgia's Shida Kartli region, were detained late yesterday close to the occupation line with Tskhinvali region.
