2018 data: Georgia increases production of crops, vegetables, fruits

The production of crops, vegetables and fruits increased in 2018 in Georgia, show the preliminary data of 2018 published by the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).
In 2018 Georgia produced:
- 106.200 tonnes of wheat (8.5% year-on-year increase)
- 58,500 tonnes barley (+33.3%)
- 190,300 tonnes of maize (+33.5%)
- 218,100 tonnes potato (+21.1%)

Moreover, the production of vegetables equalled 138,300 tonnes, which is 9.8% higher compared to 2017.

In 2018 production of pome fruit amounted to 86,200 tonnes in Georgia, which is 3.3 times higher than in the same period of the previous year, said Geostat.
More specifically:
- Stone fruit production consisted of 46,000 tonnes (2.4% less compared to 2017)
- Nuts – 21,900 tonnes (decreasing by 12.2%)
- Subtropical fruit – 15,500 tonnes (increasing by 19.3%)
- Citruses – 67,400 tonnes (increasing by 15.8%)
Meanwhile, in 2018 production of grapes increased by 44.8% year-on-year reaching 261,800 tonnes, said Geostat.
Trade turnover between Georgia and EU increased by 17.7% in comparison to 2017 and reached $3.35 billion in 2018, much in part thanks to the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) agreement with the EU.
Georgia’s external trade with EU up 6.3%, with CIS up 2.8%
Georgia is increasing its role as an important trade partner the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), while trade turnover with the European Union decreased this year.
In January 2019 the external merchandise trade (excluding non-declared trade) of Georgia amounted to USD 826.8 million, which is the 1.2 per cent higher compared to the same month of the last year, the Georgian National Statistics Office says.
Georgia’s external trade amounted to $2.80 billion in January-March 2019, says the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat). Georgian exports increased by 12.8% to $826 million, while the value of imports decreased by 4.7% to $1.98 billion with respect to 2018.
Copper ores and concentrates, motor cars and ferroalloys are Georgia’s top export items in January-March 2019, announces the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).
Georgia has exported 3,426 tonnes of peach and nectarine as of July 2019, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment Protection reports. The agency announces that Georgia sees a decline this year as 5,554 tonnes were exported in July 2018.
The production of wheat, barley, potatoes, stone fruits and citrus decreased in Georgia in 2019, while the production of maize, nuts and subtropical fruits increased in the country, show the preliminary data of 2019 published by the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).
