2018 data: Georgia increases production of crops, vegetables, fruits

The production of crops, vegetables and fruits increased in 2018 in Georgia, show the preliminary data of 2018 published by the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).

In 2018 Georgia produced:

  • 106.200 tonnes of wheat (8.5% year-on-year increase)
  • 58,500 tonnes barley (+33.3%)
  • 190,300 tonnes of maize (+33.5%)
  • 218,100 tonnes potato (+21.1%)

Moreover, the production of vegetables equalled 138,300 tonnes, which is 9.8% higher compared to 2017.

In 2018 production of pome fruit amounted to 86,200 tonnes in Georgia, which is 3.3 times higher than in the same period of the previous year, said Geostat.

More specifically:

  • Stone fruit production consisted of 46,000 tonnes (2.4% less compared to 2017)
  • Nuts – 21,900 tonnes (decreasing by 12.2%)
  • Subtropical fruit – 15,500 tonnes (increasing by 19.3%)
  • Citruses – 67,400 tonnes (increasing by 15.8%)

Meanwhile, in 2018 production of grapes increased by 44.8% year-on-year reaching 261,800 tonnes, said Geostat.
