Locations and landmarks on Google Maps will now be available to users in Georgian, as the language was among nearly 40 new additions to the popular platform.

In a major update to the service, Google added Georgian alongside languages including Croatian, Danish, Mongolian and Ukrainian.

In total, 39 new languages were added to the maps platform used by over a billion users.

The new languages will be applied to the names of cities, locations and monuments as well as to the Google Maps interface and notification system.

Both desktop and mobile versions of the platform will receive the update, with the number of translated items to be increased over time.

The update follows the addition of Georgian to Google Speech Recognition last year as well as improvements in details of the country’s cities and agricultural cooperatives over recent years.
