The Tbilisi City Hall has announced the launch of a scheme to renovate and modernise libraries in the Georgian capital, since many of the 36 libraries in Tbilisi are in dire need of restoration.
Kaladze and his deputy Sopio Khuntsaria stated that Tbilisi should have modern libraries to help attract the younger generation.
We plan to build more libraries in Tbilisi, all of which will be in line with European standards,” Khuntsaria stated.
She said that library staff will keep their jobs if they pass mandatory qualification test.
Currently, 340 people are employed in the city’s libraries. We offer them the opportunity to participate in a training course before they taking the exam,” Khuntsaria said.
She added that the qualification test will measure the staff’s knowledge about relevant laws and library standards.
She stated that in the event that any of the libraries close due to infrastructural problems, the staff will be employed in other libraries.
The deputy mayor promised that qualified staff would receive a pay rise.
