The Vice President of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Cynthia Huger, who is visiting Georgia for the first time, has stated that Georgia is among the best partners of the MCC.
Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze met Huger yesterday where they talked about future cooperation between Georgia and the MCC, educational reforms planned by the government of Georgia and successful projects implemented within the $140 million MCC compact.
Bakhtadze and Huger agreed that it was important to further deepen the relationship in order to better shape Georgia’s potential to become a regional leader in education.
It was noted at the meeting that a high-level delegation of the MCC is scheduled to visit Georgia in September, which will facilitate further development of the partnership.
Millennium Challenge Fund - Georgia implements general, vocational and higher education projects within the scope of a $140 million worth of MCC Compact to facilitate the human capacity building in engineering, technologies and natural sciences. Public school buildings are being fully rehabilitated in the regions of the country within the scope of the compact.
Professional development programmes are also implemented for teachers. New vocational education programmes have been launched and San Diego State University now offers US-accredited Bachelors Degree education to students in Georgia, ultimately leading to human capacity building in priority areas of the economy.
