Georgia’s Emergency Management Service has purchased 20 modern firefighting vehicles to better fight forest fires.

At the first stage six vehicles arrived in Georgia while the remaining 14 will cross Georgian border in the following weeks.

The main advantage of these new vehicles is their ability to fight fires in motion.

Shlava Khutsishvili of the Emergency Management Service said that the office purchased about 40 vehicles, of which 20 are firefighting vehicles.

We are ready for any scale forest fires. In addition, we will receive nine firefighting vehicles from our European and American partners, which will also increase our capabilities. 13 million GEL was spent on purchasing the vehicles”, he said.

Khutsishvili added that this is the first stage of upgrading firefighting capacity which will be continued in 2019 as well.

The Emergency Management Service will distribute new vehicles to cities in Georgia where there are high risks of forest fires.
