Georgian Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani says that support for Georgia in the US Defence Authorisation Act has never been as strong as it is now.
Zalkaliani, who made the comment regarding the most recent US Defence Authorisation Act, says that the document mentions Georgia as an ally of the United States and as an important player in regional security.
It is also important that the US is strengthening Georgia’s security and self-defence capability. The US considers Georgia within its national interests. The document speaks about further Georgia-US joint drills and the NATO open door policy.
Georgia enjoys unprecedented support from the US,” Zalkaliani said.
On 13 August 2018, President of the United States Donald Trump signed the US Defence Authorisation Act which defines the policy and budgetary priorities of the US Department of Defence for the 2019 fiscal year.
In the act, Georgia, along with the Black Sea and Baltic States, is referred to as an ally and partner of the United States.
