The theft of a shop at Bagram base in Afghanistan in which four Georgian soldiers are believed to be involved will be investigated by the Georgian military police in addition to other law enforcement agencies.
The Ministry of Defense of Georgia condemns the incident of theft which is currently being investigated by the US military police while the Georgian side is closely cooperating.
"According to preliminary results of the investigation, representatives of different international forces have been involved in the theft that happened several times, and four of them are Georgian soldiers. The shop sustained$3600 in damages,” the Ministry of Defence said today adding that the Georgian military police will start the investigation as soon as the case materials are received while updated information will be provided to the public.
"This is regretful information for the Georgian contingent in Afghanistan but it is noteworthy that this is a single case with no systemic character. The case was painfully recognized by the Ministry of Defense and the Georgian Armed Forces, as well as the leadership and personal staff of the Georgian contingent in Afghanistan,” the MOD said adding that the actions of individual military personnel can not be fully identified with the Georgian peacekeeping contingent, sacrifice and authority which is recognized and appreciated by the international community.
The MOD says it is interested in investigating the case details in order to identify the perpetrators and prevent such cases in the future.
