Georgia’s capital of Tbilisi is hosting a week-long celebration of Colombian culture and history with a program of displays opening at the Georgian National Museum starting today.

The week is launching with an exhibition illustrating the history of gold production and trading in Colombia before the arrival of Spanish explorers at the end of the 15th century.

It is titled Introduction to Goldsmithery in Pre-Hispanic Colombia and will host visitors in the entrance hall of the Simon Janashia Museum of Georgia, part of the Georgian National Museum network.

The celebrations for the week of Colombian culture will also involve a four-day screening of documentary and fiction films about the country.

Held in the auditorium of the Tbilisi venue, the program will represent the first ever Colombian film festival in Georgia’s capital.

The program of the screenings will feature documentary works Colombia: Wild Magic by director Mike Slee and Gabo: The Magic of Reality by Justin Webster.

Slee’s work depicts the natural beauty and wildlife of Colombia, while Webster’s 2015 biopic follows life and career of the country’s internationally celebrated late author Gabriel Garcia Marquez.
