A rescue operation was conducted on Monday afternoon by Georgian Emergency Service staff to save the life of a female French tourist who was injured while skiing in eastern Kakheti.
The injured woman was then transported to Gudushauri hospital in Tbilisi.
The woman was skiing with 6 other French tourists.
The rescuers were called in after one of the tourists called 112 emergency service and requested help.
They were about 60-70 km away from the Kvarli area of Kakhaeti region”, Kakheti Governor Irakli Shiolashvili stated.
The seven [tourists] were skiing on the slopes. One of them was waiting for them in the region of Tusheti and was in contact with them by satellite phone. Our rescuers managed to specify the exact whereabouts of the seven tourists with the help of the tourists in Tusheti”, Shiolashvili announced.
The governor said the injured woman was now being treated while the remaining six have returned to their accommodations.
