Head of Georgia’s Central Election Commission Tamar Zhvania has announced that 28 political subjects have been registered for the upcoming, October 21 municipal elections.
October 9 was the deadline for political parties, election blocs and initiative groups to withdraw Sakrebulo and mayoral candidates; the deadline also expired for candidates to quit the race.
Out of the 28 political subjects 22 are political unities, five-election blocs and one is an initiative group,” Zhvania said.
The CEC chairperson stated that her body had carried out 6 educational programs for different target groups on election issues.
More than 8,000 people participated in the programs. Those who are now employed at the precinct and district election commissions are the graduates of the Election Administration Courses and Election Development School educational programs,” Zhvania stated.
She added that the people employed at the commissions were voluntarily involved in the new initiative of the CEC-Speak with voters.
Zhvania stated that the CEC carried out 166 informative events within the project- Find Yourself-Find Your District.
The project is about providing complete voters’ lists.
Zhvania says that 319,079 voters addressed the CEC to check themselves in the voters’ lists.
