Georgia and the United States (US) will start negotiations over a free trade agreement and we hope for the support from the Congress, Georgian Deputy Parliamentary Spokesperson Tamar Chugosvili said.

Having visited the US with the Parliamentary delegation, Chugoshvili said the Georgian parliamentarians had two main issues on their agenda:

  • Georgia’s Russian occupied regions of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) and Georgia’s territorial integrity
  • A free trade agreement between Georgia and the US.

The Georgian parliamentary delegation paid a visit to the US between September 10-16 where they held bilateral meetings with US politicians and civil society organisations.

Georgian reforms, election environment and trade-economic cooperation were amongst some of the other issues the parties discussed during the meetings.

The US officials once again reiterated their firm support for Georgia’s sovereighnty, territorial integrity and its Euro-Atlantic aspirations.
