Georgia’s Ambassador to Turkey Irakli Koplatadze said no Georgians were injured by a powerful earthquake near major Turkish and Greek tourist destinations yesterday, which killed two and left about 100 injured.

We received calls from Georgian citizens as they were afraid. No injury was reported among our citizens who were on holiday in Bodrum, which was affected by the earthquake,” Koplatadze stated.

Reuters reported based on official information that the earthquake claimed two lives at least.

Turkey's disaster and emergency management authority, AFAD, said the earthquake had a magnitude of 6.3, with its epicenter 11 km (7 miles) from the nearest settlement, the village of Camlik. Other reports put the earthquake magnitude at 6.7.

Across a narrow Aegean Sea waterway in Turkey's Bodrum, about 70 people were admitted to hospital, with injuries suffered in their attempts to flee the overnight tremor, which struck at 01:31 a.m local time.
