A Georgian ensemble singing folk songs in Georgian and Megrelian languages will perform at the annual Errichetta Festival of traditional music in Italy's capital Rome next week.

On January 14, the ensemble Lale from city Tsalenjikha in western Georgia's Samegrelo region will entertain the audience of the seventh edition of the festival running from January 13-15.

The four-member band will feature at the occasion a day before a screening of the award-winning documentary The Dazzling Light of Sunset by Georgian filmmaker Salome Jashi.

Winner of the Best New Film award at the 2016 Nyon International Film Festival in Switzerland, the documentary followed personalities of the local community in Tsalenjikha and featured the ensemble Lale performing local folk music.

Performers of the Georgian ensemble will be among dozens of artists flocking to the Rome festival from across Italy as well as countries including Greece, Iran and France.

Lale was founded in 2014 by singer Nineli Gvinjilia with the aim of bringing together performing talents in Tsalenjikha to preserve the heritage of traditional Megrelian music.

Beside the founder the band also includes Kristina and Palanda Gvinjilias as well as fourth member Anano Kvaratskhelia.

The Errichetta Festival is promoted by organisers as an "initiative of a community of musicians, united by a passion for traditional music."

The festival program includes three days of musical performances as well as film screenings and public talks on music by well-known contemporary artists including New Zealand saxophonist Hayden Chisholm and Iranian artist Reza Samani.
