The Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Accommodation and Refugees of Georgia has paid mortgage loans for 166 Internally Displaced families, the Ministry press office reports.

Today Minister of Refugees Sozar Subari met the Kiviladze family in Tbilisi.

The family couldn’t pay a 20,000 GEL (8,000 USD) mortgage loan and the obligation was fulfilled by the Ministry as the flat  was the only real estate for the family.

The Ministry pays the loans for the Internally Displaced families only in the case that families have no other place to live.

The total amount of the one-time budgetary support is 20,000 GEL.

The Ministry launched this project in 2015.

  • Currently there are about 280,000 internally displaced people (IDPs) in Georgia; about six percent of the country’s total population.
  • All of Georgia’s IDPs are either from Abkhazia or Tskhinvali region (South Ossetia) – two regions of Georgia that are currently occupied by Russia.
