Salaries increase for Georgian teachers

At the end of this month teachers in Georgia will receive an increased salary.

Georgia’s Minister of Education and Science Tamar Sanikidze announced the salaries of all Georgian teachers had increased from April 1, and teachers would reap the benefits of the additional income in their first pay packet at the end of the month.

This afternoon Minister Sanikidze announced basic teachers’ salaries had increased by $22 (50 GEL) to $180. Teachers with more qualifications would receive a slightly larger increase.

This will be the first salary increase for Georgian teachers since the Georgian Dream coalition took office. Raising teachers’ salaries was one of the coalition’s election promises. 

How much will teachers earn after the April 1 salary increase?

  • Basic salary in 2012: $109

Basic salary from April 1: $180

  • Practicing teacher’s salary in 2012: $160

Salary from April 1: $267

  • Head Teacher’s salary in 2012: $200. 

Salary from April 1: $356 

  • Leader Teacher’s salary in 2012: $222.

Salary from April 1: $429 

Sanikidze said the next wave of salary increases for teachers would happen on January 1, 2017. At this time the average monthly salary of teachers will range between $356-400.
