A historic area of Rustavi city, located 25km southeast of Georgia’s capital Tbilisi, is about to undergo a rapid and major transformation to modernise and rehabilitate the space and create more recreation zones for locals to enjoy.
In about nine months’ time Kostava Ave in Old Rustavi district will be unrecognisable from its current state after undergoing a major upgrade worth 4.7 million GEL to modernise the street.
DAGI, a local construction firm, will be responsible for the rehabilitation works. The company recently won the tender announced by Rustavi City Hall and will begin renovation works in the coming days.

Corner cafes, upgraded buildings, new bus stops and rubbish bins, rehabilitated roads, green areas and new street lighting will transform Kostava Ave into one of the most beautiful and attractive spaces in Rustavi, said those behind the development project.
This is a very large-scaled project in which 4,700,000 GEL ($2,070,484*/€1,814,671*) will be invested. The whole infrastructure is changing in the area. While the avenue will be fully renovated, the buildings will maintain their original architectural character,” Rustavi Mayor Davit Jikia told Agenda.ge.
We are supporting the development of corner cafes. The presentation video shows there intends to be several corner cafes on new Kostava Avenue but it does not mean we are forcing the current owners out of their buildings to open corner cafes. Only if they want to do that, then we will support them and give the the space in front of their buildings for a symbolic price."
Initially properties 1-17 Kostava Ave will be rehabilitated while City Hall planned to continue the development project and renovate 23-24 Kostava Ave until Alievi Square.
