A Georgian contemporary artist is holding her first solo exhibition at a top art gallery in New York, United States (US).

For five months starting April 3, Berlin-based artist Thea Djordjadze will present her contemporary display that showcases her vision on sculptural architecture to local art critics and enthusiasts.

The exhibition Projects 103: Thea Djordjadze will be hosted at the Museum of Modern Art gallery PS1, which is one of the oldest US-based contemporary art institutions.

Djordjadze's work has been praised for its "stunning" display effects using "mundane" materials. Photo from www.america.pink.

Djordjadze’s exhibition will be the first in the Elaine Dannheisser Projects Series, named after one of famous New York art collectors.

The New York gallery announced the Georgian artist's exhibition on Wednesday on social media:

“Projects 103”, the first exhibition in the forty-five year history of the #ElaineDannheisser Projects Series will open at MoMA PS1 on April 3, presenting a site-specific sculpture by the Berlin-based, Georgian artist #TheaDjordjadze. Drawing on the visual language of Modernist #architecture and functional #design, Djordjadze creates sculptural environments that evoke the vernacular and #folk traditions native to the Caucasus region in the Republic of #Georgia. For #MoMAPS1, she will build a large-scale sculptural #installation made especially for the museum’s ground floor, brick-walled, duplex gallery. Responding to the room’s exaggerated ceiling height, the work is inspired by a 12th century pharmacy located in the cave city of Vardzia, Georgia, pictured in a poster that hung in the artist’s childhood bedroom. #Projects103: Thea Djordjadze will be on view through August 29, 2016 and is organized by Paulina Pobocha (@paulinapobocha), Assistant Curator, Department of Painting and Sculpture, @themuseumofmodernart, with Margaret Aldredge (@maaglio), Curatorial Assistant, @momaps1.
