Tbilisi has condemned the terrorist attack that reportedly killed at least 16 people and wounded many more at a beach resort in the West African country of Ivory Coast.
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia conveys sincere condolences to the families of those killed and the governments of those countries whose citizens were killed in the attack,” the Ministry said in a statement.
"Georgia expresses its concern over the increasing character of terrorist acts in the world and hopes that these challenges can be overcome through joint efforts of the international community.”
Six militants opened fire on beach-goers in the resort town of Grand Bassam, about 40km from the commercial capital Abidjan on Sunday afternoon.
The resort is a popular tourist destination for locals and foreigners.
At least 16 people were killed in the rampage; four of which were westerners including a French and German national, BBC reported.
Also killed were 14 civilians and two soldiers, said Ivory Coast president Alassane Ouattara.
Twenty-two other people, including three Special Forces, were injured, he added.
The president said the six attackers had been shot and killed by Special Forces and the situation was now "under control”.
Al Qaeda has claimed responsibility for the attack.
