Bio strawberries that originated in Spain are being grown in Georgia’s Kakheti region ahead of the early spring harvest.
In Ninogori village a young Georgian farmer is about to reap the benefits of his agriculture investment and pick his first harvest of Spanish strawberries at the end of February.
The strawberries do not contain any genetically modified elements and are regarded as ecologically and biologically clean.
Farmer Giorgi Darejanashvili used his own funds to build a 300 m2 greenhouse to grow Spanish strawberries, which he believed would be in great demand in Georgia.
The fruit is not genetically modified. It is ecologically clean. For the first harvest this February we expect to pick one tonnes of strawberries,” said Darejanashvili.

The young farmer was negotiating with local retailers to sell his bio strawberries in the local market.
The cost of one kilogram of strawberries will vary from 15-20 GEL.
The price is regulated by the market. It will be sold in different supermarkets including in Tbilisi. If we see the demand we will definitely increase the production capacity,” Darejanashvili said.
Strawberry picking will start in the coming days and last for about one month.
