About 3,000 families in one of Georgia’s two Russian-occupied regions will soon have a 24-hour water supply.
Georgia’s Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure rehabilitated the water distribution system of the Zemo Nikozi, Kvemo Nikozi and Khviti villages, located along the Administrative Boundary Line (ABL) separating Georgia from its breakaway Tskhinvali region.
About 3.4 million GEL (about $1.4 million/€1.2 million*) was spent on the project. The funds for the project were allocated by the World Bank.
Within the project five boreholes, a reservoir, chlorination tank and pumping station were developed and a 40km water pipe network was rehabilitated in the area.
Drinking water has always been a problem in these villages and before now locals did not have a 24-hour water supply.
