Georgian authorities have detained three Chinese citizens for intentionally harming the health of four Georgian citizens in an incident in the country's west.
Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs announced it had detained three Chinese citizens for an attack on four Georgian people in Zvare village in Kharagauli municipality.
In a statement released late yesterday the Ministry said on November 3 the Chinese people used a blunt instrument to inflict multiple injuries on four Georgian citizens during a conflict.
The alleged Chinese offenders worked for China Railway 23rd Bureau Group, a contractor company of Georgian Railway that's tasked to build several railway tunnels in west Georgia.
The victims of the attack were hired by the Chinese firm as workers.
Locals told media several of the Chinese workers, carrying knifes, truncheons and baton fittings, attacked the Georgian workers early yesterday after they found the workers were helping a village resident transport firewood.
Zvare locals also said the Chinese contracting company frequently violated the workers’ labour rights.
Now a protest rally is being held with the demand to punish the alleged attackers and change the Chinese company management in Georgia.
Georgia’s Public Defender Ucha Nanuashvili said he was following the investigation into the incident.
