Students wanting to study environment management can soon apply to Georgia’s first-ever Master’s program in environment policy.

At today’s governmental meeting Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili said a new MA program in Environment Management and Policy had been developed and would soon be launched in one of Georgia’s higher learning institutions.

Kvirikashvili said the creation of the program became possible with help from the German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the Georgian Institute of Public Affairs (GIPA).

"One of the top priorities of our Government is to protect the environment and having the right environment management policy,” said Kvirikashvili as he introduced the new program to cabinet.

He stressed this would be first program of its kind in Georgia.

Up to 90 percent of full tuition fees for the new Master’s program will be covered by GIZ.

"For this great support I want to thank the government of Germany,” Kvirikashvili said.

He believed Georgia needed to focus more attention on environment education.
