Georgia and Chile have reached a visa free travel agreement to allow easier travel between the countries for people with diplomatic, service and official passports.

The agreement will come into force from May 1, after which Georgian officials will be able to travel to Chile without a visa. The same rules apply to the Chilean side.

On April 21 the Chilean government officially informed Georgia it had completed internal procedures to activate the "Agreement between the Georgian Government and Chilean Government on visa free travel for the owners of diplomatic, service and official passports”.

Action to allow easier travel between Georgia and Chile for official delegates began in 2013. On September 17, 2013, Georgia’s Ambassador to Chile Gela Sekhniashvili signed a bilateral agreement with the Chilean side in this respect.

Looking ahead, Georgia has scheduled a future visit of Foreign Minister Tamar Beruchashvili to Santiago, the Chilean capital. This visit would contribute to further deepening bilateral relations, said Georgia’s Foreign Ministry in a statement.
