Kuwait may be more than 1,400km from Georgia but the two countries are forging closer relations through the opening of a Georgian section in the country’s national library.
Avid readers and enthusiasts of foreign literature can now enjoy a Georgian book corner at the National Library of Kuwait.
Earlier this week a festive ceremony was held where Georgia’s Ambassador to Kuwait Roland Beridze handed over a selection of Georgian books to Kamal al-Abduljalili, the library’s general manager.
The sides expressed readiness to continue cooperation for the development of cultural and scientific ties between the two countries.
The event was also attended by representatives of the Kuwait National Council for Culture, Art and Letters (NCCAL), Georgian students and members of Georgian diaspora.
The project was developed by Georgian Foreign Ministry as a way to raise awareness and increase the popularity of Georgian literature abroad. With this aim, the Ministry planned to open Georgian sections in libraries all over the world.
To date, Georgian sections have already opened in libraries in Korea, Egypt, Austria, Switzerland, the Philippines, Malaysia, Spain and Latvia.
In addition, several existing Georgian sections in libraries abroad have been refilled and enriched with additional Georgian literature.
