Spring is in the air - the weather is warming up and blossoms are beginning to appear on tree branches.
Tbilisi City Hall has begun its spring planting, where two days ago 300 almond trees were planted in Tbilisi. And looking ahead, officials hope to plant tens of thousands more trees in the coming months.
Tbilisi Mayor David Narmania, his deputies, municipal heads and chiefs of districts gathered in Tbilisi’s Dendrite Park near Tbilisi Sea on Sunday to plant the almond trees.
City officials noted this act marked the beginning of the spring planting season and more plants would be planted in the park over the next two months.
"With active involvement of the public, we plan to plant tens of thousands of new trees in the park during the spring season,” Narmania said.
Head of the Tbilisi City Hall Ecology and Greenery Department Bidzina Giorgobiani said an almond orchard would be cultivated in Dendrite Park. This would include the planting of 5,500 sets of sweet almond trees in the next several weeks.
He also noted that 50,000 additional trees would be planted on the surrounding territory this spring planting season.
