A Georgian pianist is among the winners of a prestigious youth piano competition held in Denmark.
Eighteen-year-old Irma Gigani was awarded a prize for 4thplace in her age category at the Aarhus International Piano Competition, held from March 1-6.
The competition was separated into two categories; where budding pianists aged 10-15 took part in two rounds of competition in category A while those aged 15-21 took part in three rounds in category B.
The young Georgian pianist has already achieved considerable success in the international arena and she currently leads an active concert life, having performed in Georgia, Germany, Israel and Holland.
Her musical talents were evident from a young age – when she was five she entered the Tbilisi Z. Paliashvili N1 Central Music School and played Johann Sebastian Bach piano concerto in F Minor.
Growing up the aspiring pianist has won various international festivals. She is a laureate and winner of the grand prize at the Minerbio International Competition in Italy.
In 2010, Gigani won first prize and a special award for the best performance of a Georgian composer’s masterpiece at the Chopin Competition, held by the initiative of the Tbilisi State Conservatory and Polish Embassy in Georgia.
She is also a scholar of the UNESCO International Fund.
