A compilation of 56 most powerful photographs by international news agency Reuters features an image by a Georgian photographer taken during the 2008 Russia-Georgia war in the town of Gori, Georgia.
The image, taken by Gia Abdaladze on August 9, 2008, showed Zaza Razmadze crying and hugging his brother’s dead body during the 2008 conflict.
Razmadze’s brother, Zviad, was killed during one of the bombings of the small town of Gori in 2008. The photograph captured a poignant moment in the bloody battle and soon spread around the world as evidence of the cruelty of the short but violent war.
Six years on from the Russia-Georgia clash, in February 2014 Zaza Razmadze died in a tragic accident in a refugee settlement in the Gori district. He was electrocuted while working in a crane when the machine accidentally touched a power line.
Meanwhile the image of the Razmadze brothers was one of 56 that were selected by Reuters to mark the photo agency’s 30th anniversary.
Other photos included in the compilation portrayed different wars around the world, natural disasters, elections, scandals, protests and peace treaties.
"Reuters’ photographers have been there to capture it all,” said the statement accompanying the compilation.
