The United States (US) is declaring its full support for Georgia as the country strives to complete ambitious democratic reforms and integrate with the European Union and NATO structures.
Furthermore, the powerful nation supported Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
This was the message the US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland shared with Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, when the pair met in Tbilisi today.
The PM said Nuland’s visit was a clear demonstration of the US’ support for Georgia, and that Georgia considered the US as its "first strategic partner country”.
At today’s meeting the sides spoke about issues regarding regional security and increasing Georgia’s defence capabilities, as well as to strengthen the economic-trade relations between Georgia and the US.
During the meeting Nuland mentioned reforms should be done in the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Chief Prosecutor’s Office, and she promised US experts would be involved in this process.
Garibashvili emphasised how important it was for Georgia to receive US support.
He said Georgia would "do its best” to strengthen the bilateral relations between Georgia and the US – its first strategic partner country.
