Tbilisi is saddened by a terrorist attack in Nigeria that claimed the lives of at least 30 people and left more than 70 others injured.

Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili offered his condolences to Nigerian president Muhammadu Buhari and said the thoughts of the Georgian people and Government were with the nation of Nigeria today.

"Georgia strictly condemns terrorism,” Garibashvili’s letter read.

"We hope that those standing behind this attack will be strictly punished within the law. At this time of grief I assure you that the people of Georgia stand beside the friendly people of Nigeria and the families and friends of the victims.”

A night-time suicide bomber killed 32 people at a market in the northern Nigerian city of Yola, officials said.

The blast, heard across the city, struck a busy vegetable market where traders were closing up on Tuesday evening.

The terror attack was believed to be linked to the Islamic extremist terror organisation Boko Haram.

Yola has twice been hit by deadly bomb attacks this year.
