Georgia is saddened by a major bus crash in France that claimed the lives of more than 40 people, the majority elderly.

Georgia’s Foreign Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili sent a letter of condolences to his French counterpart today, where the Georgian official expressed his "deepest sorrow” over the tragic incident.

He expressed Georgia’s support for the families of the victims and the whole French nation.

At least 43 people, most of them pensioners on a day trip, were killed in a head-on collision between a bus and a truck in south-west France yesterday, BBC reported.

The crash happened on a country road near Puisseguin in the Gironde wine region, east of Bordeaux. Both vehicles then caught fire.

It was the worst French road disaster since 1982, when 52 people died.
