Russia has been slapped with more sanctions.
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) has renewed sanctions against a Russian delegation and adopted a resolution that contained issues related to Georgia and Russia's non compliance of the ceasefire agreement.
The resolution, named Challenge, on substantive grounds, of the still unratified credentials of the delegation of the Russian Federation, was adopted by PACE on January 28, 2015.
In the resolution, PACE emphasized that Russia’s actions in Ukraine demonstrated its lack of willingness to honour its accession commitments in regard to its relations with neighbouring countries.
The Assembly called on Russian authorities to comply with the resolution on the consequences of the war between Russia and Georgian in 2008. In particular it urged Russia to remove any obstacles to allow free movement of civilians across the administrative boundary lines between South Ossetia and Abkhazia and the rest of Georgia.
Meanwhile, the renewed sanctions on Russia included suspension of voting rights and the credentials of the Russian delegation, citing the need to "foster dialogue" between the parties. At the same time, PACE suspended Russia’s voting rights and its right to be represented in the Assembly’s leading bodies.
