An increasing number of terrorist attacks in south-east Turkey has prompted Georgian authorities to issue a travel warning for its citizens wanting to travel to the nearby nation.
Today Georgia advised against travelling to Turkey’s south-eastern provinces because of the high risk of terrorist attacks in this region.
The country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommended Georgian citizens to keep away from the Ardahan, Erzurum, Erzincan, Kars, Igdir, Agri, Van, Bitlis, Bingol, Mus, Elazig, Tunjelis, Malatya, Urfa, and Hakkari regions.
People who were unable to cancel their travel plans to these regions were advised to call the Embassy of Georgia in Turkey and its consular office in case of an emergency.
In recent months several terrorist attacks were carried out resulting in a number of deaths. Today the risk of more attacks remains high.
On July 20, 27 people were killed and about 100 were injured in attacks in the Urfa regions.
Additionally there were current reports of possible threats to public transport in Istanbul. People in Turkey’s capital were advised to stay away from Taksim square in the city centre and nearby Metro stations.
