Georgian officials are encouraging the younger population to get involved in the country's theatre tradition, which is described as among the richest in the world.
Theatre performances, backstage tours and lectures will bring drama to life and instill a deep understanding of Georgia’s theatre culture, said Georgia’s Ministry of Culture and Monument Protection, who, with the Ministry Education, established a new project for Georgian school pupils.
The project, named Excursion in Theatres, will offer a range of tours to bring pupils closer to the theatre and find out more about the history behind the national art of theatres.
This was a unique chance for Georgia's younger population to see and discover backstage magic world of the country's theatres, officials said.
Within the project, young Georgian students throughout the country will have a chance to visit any theatre they choose, go backstage and look at theatre costumes and decorations, meet with artists, theatre director and attend rehearsals.
In addition, pupils will enjoy a 50 percent discount to attend performances in Georgia’s theatres.
Initially 11 state-based theatres will be involved in the project. Gradually, all Georgian theatres will take in the project by the end of the year.
