A Georgian wine gallery has opened in the German capital Berlin allowing the local population to get a taste of traditional Georgian wine.

The Tibanely wine company is behind the move, and has exported Georgian wine to Germany since 2008. At the new shop in Berlin, visitors will be able to enjoy a raft of Georgian wine, Chacha (grape vodka) and brandy, said Georgia’s Ministry of Agriculture.

Initially 25 products from Vinery Graneli, Askaneli, Twins Wine Cellar, Kvareli Cellar and Alaveri Wines will be offered at the new wine gallery, which is located on Savini Platz, one of the central streets of Berlin. In addition, young Georgian painters will exhibit and sell their artwork at the shop.

Meanwhile, a Georgian delegation is in Berlin attending Green Week 2015, where representatives of Georgia’s Ministry of Agriculture are meeting their colleagues from different countries.

Georgia’s Minister of Agriculture Otar Danelia said it was important to raise the profile of Georgian products abroad. This was particularly important after Georgia signed the Association Agreement (AA) with the European Union (EU).

Danelia said the newly-opened wine gallery will contribute to raising awareness of Georgian wine and deepen global interest towards Georgian products. Through this initiative Georgian wine will become more under demand in the European market, Danelia believed.

One of the German owners of the new wine gallery in Berlin said: "I love Georgian wine very much and especially Saperavi wine. Together with my two partners I planned to open a Georgian wine gallery in Berlin. I do hope that this project will be very successful and the number of German customers will increase.”
