Georgia’s Prime Minister is today hosting a special visitor from the United States (US).
Head of Georgian Government Irakli Garibashvili has met with the Director for European Affairs of the US National Security Council, Special Assistant to the US President Charles Kupchan at the Government Administration building.
This morning Prime Minister Garibashvili spoke with the Kupchan about Georgia-US relations, the importance of global security cooperation and Georgia’s valuable participation in international missions.
Discussions also centred around Georgia’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration and preparation for the Eastern Partnership (EaP) Summit, which will be held in Riga on May 21-22.
Furthermore, the parties spoke about the current situation in the Caucasus region and in the breakaway territories of Georgia. Garibashvili thanked the US official for supporting the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia and promoting the country’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration process.
Kupchan stressed the US was a friendly state and an important strategic partner for Georgia.
On this note, Prime Minister Garibashvili emphasized the importance of Georgia-US relations in the defensive sphere and noted the US-Georgian military exercise Noble Partner was further proof of the strong military cooperation between the two countries. He also praised the United States European Command and discussed ways to enhance cooperation between the US with units of the Georgian Armed Forces.
He also told Kupchan about the reforms implemented by the Government of Georgia to strengthen democratic institutions.
Several members of the Georgian Government attended today’s meeting, including Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Giorgi Kvirikashvili, Defense Minister Tinatin Khidasheli, chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of Georgian Parliament Tedo Japaridze and Deputy Foreign Minister David Dondua.
