Public celebration: Georgia chooses Europe

The weekend ended on a high in Tbilsi as hundreds gathered to celebrate and reaffirm Georgia’s European integration desire.

Music played as Georgia’s President Giorgi Margvelashvili and other politicians, artists, journalists and local citizens from all walks of life gathered and participated in a demonstration-concert at Rike Park at Europe Square to demonstrate their pro-Europe choice.

The three-hour celebration was planned and organised by the Eastern Parthnership Platform, which contained numerous local non-governmental organisations.

President Margvelashvili said he was happy to attend the event and was especially pleased with the fact that members of Georgia’s civil society m unified for a very significant purpose.

"I am happy to be here and I am sure we will be victorious together,” Margvelashvili addressed the public who had gathered around the stage.

He said Europe was not a choice of a particular political party but it was the choice of our Georgian ancestors.

EU Ambassador to Georgia Philip Dimitrov also addressed the public and wished they could keep their will of becoming part of the EU through withstanding pressure.

"I want you to do everything to can to make this wish come true so we can see Georgia’s beautiful national flag and hear the beautiful Georgian language in Brussels,” Dimitrov said.

He believed Georgia would definitely sign the Association Agreement in the next few months and expected locals would be able to enjoy the visa free regime with EU.

"For European Gerorgia!” Dimitrov said as he ended his speech, blessing Georgia and its European choice.
