Georgian citizens reap benefit of mass tax refund

The Government of Georgia is offering extra support to low-income earners in Georgia by implementing a scheme to refund income tax.

All Georgian citizens who earned less than 6,000 GEL last year are eligible for a tax refund.

"Two hundred and twenty people have registered to get the tax refund. I think it is the right social policy to care for people who have low incomes,” said Finance Minister Nodar Khaduri.

The income tax refund process began on April 1.

In order to obtain their refunded taxes, citizens need to fill out a special form on the Revenue Service website. Following this, they will be sent information about how much money will be returned to them.

After submitting their electronic data, successful candidates will receive their refund within three months.

Since April 1, more than 30 million GEL has already been returned to eligible citizens.
