More independence for higher educational institutions

Georgias higher educational institutions will have an opportunity to choose their own staff and payroll systems without being bound by choices made by the authoritys supervisory board.

Georgian Ministry of Education and Science aimed to increase the independence of higher educational institutions, including the universities and institutions which have already prepared for the proposed law change, by giving them more power.

The Higher Education in Georgia draft law has already been handed to parliament for discussion.

The draft law also outlines more simplified procedures for purchasing necessary equipment, including printed and electronic literature, scientific chemicals computer programs, pharmaceutical products, laboratory equipment and databases.

The higher educational institutions that are legal entities will have the opportunity to conduct entrepreneurial activities in statutory cases, including educational and scientific works, publishing activities and research that can be sold for further development.
