Five prison doctors have been fired following the death of a prisoner.
It has been revealed medical staff took inappropriate care of the patient, the Georgian Government said.
Ministry of Corrections and Legal Assistance PR spokesperson Irakli Kordzaia said the General Inspection had finished their investigation of prisoner Data Gogokhia, who died at the Rehabilitation Centre of Tuberculosis #19.
"The prisoner complained of severe pain in his stomach but the medical staff did not provided the patient with suitable medical care and Gogokhia was not taken to the special hospital in a timely manner, which caused the death of prisoner, Kordzaia said.
In addition, he added that the head doctor of the rehabilitation centre had also been relegated as he did not manage to organize the co-ordination and timely decision in accordance with the patient's interests.
