The Defence Minister of Georgia Irakli Alasania has visited Georgian troops training in a German military base.

Alasania visited the U.S. Army Garrison Hohenfels, the Joint Multinational Readiness Centre (JMRC) base that enhances the readiness of Joint and Multinational forces in Bavaria, Germany.

Alasania and Chief of General Staff of GAF Major-General Vakhtang Kapanadze attended the final phase of pre-deployment preparation and got familiar with the training process guided by U.S. military instructors.

The Georgian leaders watched the Special Mountain and 23rd Battalions of II Infantry Brigade of Georgia take on a Mission Rehearsal Exercise at the base. The training also included an assessment of how prepared each military unit was.

"We are glad that our troops, officers and military servicemen in general reveal an extremely high level of professionalism. Their combat readiness is very high. I believe that the experience gained in Germany will help them launch and finish the mission in Afghanistan successfully,” Alasania said.

He also believed that such a well-prepared army was a strong foundation for increased defence capabilities and overall security.

Following the preparation in Hohenfels, the Georgian military will be deployed in Afghanistan. Their main tasks will be to patrol their area of operation to provide safety for the population and to set up mobile control posts.
