Georgian basketballers shine in Spanish League

Two Georgian basketball stars have helped their Spanish team win a significant match in the Spanish League competition.

Viktor Sanikidze and Giorgi Shermadini play for Spanish team CAL Zaragoza and made significant contributions to their team’s surprising victory against Unicaja Malaga in the Spanish League quarter-final.

The Georgian players were both in the team’s starting line-up.

Shermadini spent just under 25 minutes on court and in that time he scored 15 points, three rebounds, one assist, one block-shot and one steal. Sanikidze scored 12 points, eight rebounds, one assist and two block-shots in the 25.43 minutes he was on court.

The Spanish team’s victory was perceived as a sensation in Spain as the team was considered an underdog to Unicaja Malaga.

Looking ahead, the team, including the Georgian duo, will take part in the Spanish League semi-final match against Real Madrid on February 8.
