The United Nation’s role in a peaceful resolution of the Russian-Georgian conflict has been discussed by Georgia’s Prime Minister and the UN Secretary General.
Irakli Garibahsvili met with Pan-Ki Moon at the 50th Munich Security Conference in Germany today.
The leaders underlined the importance of the UN's involvement in the Geneva International Discussions, the PM’s press office said.
"The Georgian side provided the UN Secretary General with detailed information about the difficult situation in Georgia’s occupied regions in regards to security and human rights, which is especially perturbing in the given conditions – there are no international mechanisms in the occupied regions,” the PM's statement claimed.
Garibashvili stressed the barb-wiring and fencing activities along the occupation line was "a violation of the international standards and non-use of force agreement."
The Georgian delegation arrived in Germany yesterday. PM Irakli Garibahsvili, Foreign Minister Maia Panjikidze and Defence Minister Irakli Alasania attended the conference opening ceremony.
