A man has died in a coal mining accident in Tkibuli, in the Imereti region in western Georgia.
Officials said the mine’s deputy chief Tariel Qasrashvili died while transporting extracted coal thorough the mine.
His death was an accident and occurred about 4pm yesterday.
The owner of the mine company, Skhnakhshiri Limited (Georgian Coal) offered its sympathies to Qasrashvili’s family.
"Sakhnakhshiri LTD administration and labour staff expresses condolences to the family,” the company statement said.
The statement claimed the administration had set up a special commission to investigate the cause of the accident.
The commission had already begun work on the investigation, the statement said.
Sakhnakhshiri and its insurance company will cover all the expenses caused by the accident, the company said.
Skhnakhshiri Limited also owns other coal mines in Tkibuli town.
