Georgia and Turkey have "exemplary relations”, says Turkish Parliament Speaker, who is currently on a two-day visit to Tbilisi.

Cemil Chichek (Çiçek) met Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and Parliament Speaker David Usupashvili today.

At the meeting with the Georgian PM, the two officials spoke about deepening trade-economic relations between the neighbouring countries.

Garibashvili stressed Turkey was Georgia’s number one trade partner. The parties discussed the importance of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, a regional rail link project to directly connect Turkey, Georgia and Azerbaijan.

The Georgian PM thanked the Turkish official for his country’s recent decision to teach the Georgian language at Turkish schools.

At a separate meeting with Georgia’s Parliament Speaker David Usupashvili, Chichek said Georgia was one of the main players in the region.

He noted the Georgian and Turkish people had "exemplary relations” affirmed by passport free and visa free traveling between the two nations.

The two Parliament Speakers agreed on further strengthening bilateral economic, political and cultural relations.

Chichek will head to Batumi, western Georgia on November 4 where he will meet Head of the Government of Adjara Autonomous Republic Archil Khabadze. He is also scheduled to visit a mosque before he leaves the country.
