An unusual guest shocked commuters travelling at one of the capital city’s busiest Metro stations this morning.
A wild fox left its rural dwelling, navigated the city streets and ended up inside the Station Square Metro station about 8.40am.
Police located at Station Square discovered the animal, which appeared confused but healthy. It is unknown how the wild animal ended up alongside hundreds of commuters on the railway platform, metres below the ground surface.
The animal was handed over to the Mayor's Office of Emergency Management Agency of the Department for the Regulation and Control of domestic and wild animals.
Subsequently the fox has undergone various testing and has been vaccinated against rabies.
As the fox could not stay in an animal shelter, it was transferred to the Ministry of Protection of the Environment and will be returned to its natural habitat.
