Georgia’s President Giorgi Margvelashvili believes it is essential to further deepen the democratic processes in the country as the nation marks two years since Georgia’s leadership changed.
The Georgian Dream coalition were victorious in the October 1, 2012 Parliamentary Election which saw the rise of Margvelashvili and demise of former president Mikheil Saakashvili and his political party United National Movement (UNM).
Today, as the country marked the second anniversary of the coalition’s victory Margvelashvili, who took the Presidency title with 62 percent of votes in 2013 and cemented Georgian Dream’s grip on power, released a special statement that said deepening the country’s democratic processes was essential for ensuring the coalition’s vision, that united them two years ago, became a reality.
"Two years ago as a result of democratic elections, Georgia witnessed historically important political changes – for the first time the power was transferred peacefully. This day is the beginning of the consolidation of Georgian democracy and it needs permanent development and our continuous efforts,” the President said.
Margvelashvili highlighted that only with the efforts of strengthening democracy was it possible for the country’s social sphere to move to a new stage of development, where Georgia’s national interests were fully protected and Georgian Dream’s vision could become a reality.
