The footballing feud between Georgia and Russia appears to have ended, and the two countries could soon play each other in an upcoming European tournament.

UEFA President Michel Platini revealed Georgia and Russia had ended their footballing argument following a UEFA Executive Committee meeting that discussed the 2016 European Championships in Switzerland.

"There were certain doubts whether these two countries could play in the same group if drawn together,” Platini said.

However he noted he received letters from both countries, which revealed that Georgia and Russia were ready to play against each other.

For political reasons, UEFA decided not to draw Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as Spain and Gibraltar in the same pool group.

Composition of the pool groups for the upcoming 2016 European Championship was published yesterday. Georgia is in the pool five.

The UEFA EURO 2016 qualifying draw will take place in Nice on February 23, 2014.
