Political and economic co-operation and Georgia’s readiness to restore the OSCE mission in the country was discussed by the Prime Minister of Georgia and the Swiss President in Davos today.
Georgian PM Irakli Garibashvili thanked the President of the Swiss Confederation Didier Burkhalter for his support of Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity and his unwavering position in these issues.
"The Swiss is the OSCE chairman for the next two years and we would be pleased to re-launch a setup of the OSCE mission in Georgia,” Garibashvili said after the meeting.
The last OSCE mission was forced to end its operation in Georgia in June, 2009, after a failure to agree on its mandate following Russia’s recognition of Georgia’s breakaway regions.
Garibashvili also thanked Burkhalter for Switzerland’s mediation in Georgia-Russia relations, as well as technical co-operation and humanitarian support from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.
The two leaders also focused on expanding the economic co-operation between the countries.
This year's theme at the Davos 44th World Economic Forum is "Reshaping the World: Consequences for Society, Politics and Business".
Around 2,500 business leaders and policy-makers are in Davos, representing more than a thousand organisations and a hundred nationalities. On top of that, the area is filled with thousands of journalists who hope to gleam the secrets of the world's most influential minds.
The meeting was also attended by the Minister of Economy of Georgia Giorgi Kvirikashvili, Minister of Foreign Affairs Maia Panjikidze and Ambassador of Georgia in Switzeland Irakli Kurashvili.
