Protecting Georgia’s citizens and preventing crime are some of the issues Giorgi Badashvili will tackle in his new role as Georgia’s Chief Prosecutor.
In a special statement issued today, the 32 year old promised all his efforts as Chief Prosecutor of Georgia would be directed towards protecting public safety and ensuring fair justice.
"I fully acknowledge there are high demands and expectations from the public towards the Chief Prosecutor’s Office,” Badashvili said, adding he was ready to meet these expectations together with the professional staff of the Office.
The Chief Prosecutor claimed proper attention needed to be paid on improving ways to collect evidence.
"This would be one of the prerequisites of finding the objective truth, especially in [Georgia where there are] so many high profile cases to investigate,” Badashvili said.
Improving the qualifications of Prosecutor Office employees and sharing international experiences were also named as priorities of the Prosecutor’s Office.
In addition, Badashvili said preventing a crime was as important as investigating it.
He thanked Prime Minister Irakli Garibahsvili and Justice Minister Tea Tsulukiani for the trust they had shown when they appointed Badashvili to "such a responsible post”.
Badashvili graduated from the Georgian Technical University Faculty of Law. Since late-November last year, he has worked as head of the Investigation Department at the Prosecutor's Office.
Before, Badashvili held the role of deputy head of the Anti-Corruption Agency at the Ministry of Internal Affairs. His career started at the Ministry of Finance where he held several positions from June 2006 to May 2013.
